STANFORD, Calif. – Maddy Goldberg tied Oregon’s school record for saves with 15 in a 2-0 loss to No. 5 Stanford Sunday at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
Goldberg, a sophomore from Pleasanton, Calif., made seven saves in the first half and eight in the second to surpass her previous single-game high of eight, set earlier this season against Missouri State. It was the most saves by a Duck goalkeeper in 20 years.
How It Happened: The Cardinal (14-0-2, 7-0-1) scored once in each half.
In the ninth minute, Stanford took advantage of a defensive turnover by the Ducks to score the game’s first goal.
Goldberg then made saves on 15 consecutive shots on goal before the Cardinal finally added a second tally in the 77th minute.
Livvy Moore led the Ducks (0-14-2, 0-8-0) with three shots.
Notable: Oregon came into the weekend having played the second-most difficult schedule in the country, trailing only Tennessee, and could move into the top spot following this weekend’s road games at Stanford and California. … Goldberg tied the saves record held by Sarah Peters (Washington, 2001) and Domenique Lainez (Texas A&M, 2003); With 88 saves on the season, Goldberg moved within one save of entering UO single season top 10 in saves. … The Cardinal set an Oregon opponent record by attempting 17 corner kicks, but did not score off any of those set pieces. … Moore had two more shots on goal Sunday to raise her season shots on goal percentage to .600 (9-of-15). … Defender Anna Phillips made her 52nd consecutive start. … Freshman Ryann Reynolds made her third start of the season and her first since Sept. 10 versus Denver.
Up Next: Oregon will play its final two home games of the season Thursday versus Washington (7 p.m., Pac-12 Network) and Oct. 29 against Washington State (1 p.m.). Oregon will honor fifth-year senior Jordan Snyder prior to the game with the Cougars.
