OSU FB: Comeback Bid Falls Short as Beavers Fall in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Jack Velling hauled in a score and DJ Uiagalelei passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns but Oregon State’s comeback bid fell short in a 27-24 loss to Arizona on Saturday night.

Uiagalelei connected with Velling on a 22-yard toss for a first quarter touchdown in the first before and Atticus Sappington split the uprights on a 35-yard field goal to even things at 10 at the intermission. Silas Bolden gave the Beavers (6-2, 3-2 Pac-12) their final lead of the contest when he dashed into the endzone from eight yards out for the 17-13 edge.

Arizona responded with a pair of touchdowns to push their lead to 27-17 over a 6:24 stretch in the final quarter. Using just 44 seconds and driving 75 yards, Jimmy Vaslin III hauled in a 20-yard pass from Uiagalelei to help the Beavs get back within three at 27-24. The Wildcats chewed the clock down to zeros to secure the win.

Easton Mascarenas-Arnold led the Beavers defensively with 10.0 total tackles, five solo stops, a sack and a tackle for loss. Akili Arnold followed with 8.0 total tackles, four solo stops – a season-best. John McCartan picked off a Noah Fifita pass in the second quarter.

Oregon State will stay on the road for their next game, taking on Colorado on November 4th. The nationally-televised matchup from Boulder is set for 7 p.m. PT and can be seen on ESPN.
