EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the week for the second week in a row, fourth time this season and conference-record seventh time in his career, the league announced on Monday.
Nix’s fourth honor of the 2023 ties Matt Barkley (USC, 2011) and Khalil Tate (Arizona, 2017) for the Pac-12 single-season record, and the seventh of his career passes Barkley, Luke Falk (WSU) and Napoleon Kaufman (Washington) for the most all-time.
Widely considered one of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy, Nix completed 24-of-29 passes for 404 yards and six touchdowns last week at Arizona State, tying the UO single-game record for TD passes. All six of Nix’s touchdowns came before halftime.
Nix has now thrown for four-plus touchdowns in three straight games, and has accounted for six total touchdowns in two of his last three. During November, Nix leads the nation in passing touchdowns (14), passing yards per game (400.7), passing yards (1,202), passer rating (225.68) and completion percentage (77.6), and his 16 total touchdowns are tied with Jayden Daniels (LSU) for most in the country.
On the season, Nix leads the nation with a stellar 78.1 completion percentage (282-of-361), on pace to break the NCAA single-season record of 77.4 set by Alabama’s Mac Jones in 2020. He is the only QB in the nation completing at least 75.0 percent of his passes, and is just the second FBS quarterback since 2000 (Joe Burrow, 2019) to complete at least 78.0 percent of his passes through 11 games with at least 300 pass attempts.
Nix ranks second in the nation in passing touchdowns (35), second in total yards per play (9.12), second in passer rating (191.35), third in passing yards per game (321.7), fourth in total yards per game (333.4) and fifth in completions (282). Nix is the only FBS quarterback in the top five for all of those categories, including completion percentage.
Nix has thrown just two interceptions through 11 games, becoming the only FBS quarterback since at least 2000 with at least 35 passing TDs and no more than two interceptions through a team’s first 11 games.
Oregon has been stellar early in games behind Nix, who leads the nation in first-half touchdown passes with 24. He is also the only FBS player with at least six total touchdowns in multiple games this season (vs. California, at ASU).
Nix is the only Pac-12 player to earn the offensive award multiple times this season. Oregon has now won seven total conference weekly awards in 2023.
