Beavs Can’t Overcome Michigan on Sunday

TAMPA, Fla. – Michigan plated the necessary runs late to spoil the Beavers’ final game in the USF-Rawlings Invitational on Sunday morning, taking a 2-1 decision.

With just one away in the Wolverines’ seventh, they erased their deficit as Maddie Erickson launched a home run out to left to make it a 1-1 game before Lilly Vallimont’s single to left center brought in the second and decisive run to dispatchOregon State.

Using early offense for their second consecutive game, the Beavers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a Lici Campbell home run to left.

The Beavers’ offense was carried by Grace Messmer – who collected a pair of hits – and Campbell. Sarah Haendiges (1-1) was charged with the loss, where she tossed 6.1 frames, gave up the two earned runs, struck out three and walked one.

Oregon State will travel down to Fresno, Calif., to compete in the Fresno State Invitational next weekend. The 2024 season will continue with a two-game set on Friday against Saint Mary’s (Calif.) and Fresno State.
