SAN DIEGO – No. 17 Oregon’s pitching was stellar once again on Sunday, but the Ducks dropped a 2-0 decision to Texas A&M on the final day of the Campbell/Cartier Classic at SDSU Softball Stadium.
Freshman Taylour Spencer (2-1) allowed just two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings. Morgan Scott relieved Spencer in the sixth and retired the final two batters of the inning.
Over the five-game tournament, Duck pitchers posted a 1.31 earned run average with 12 strikeouts and six walks. Oregon gave up just six earned runs in 32.0 innings.
How it Happened: The leadoff batter for Oregon (6-5) reached base in six-of-seven innings on Sunday. The Ducks also out-hit the Aggies, 6-4.
Kai Luschar led the game off with a single and stole second. She advanced a base on a ground out but was stranded at thitd.
The Ducks had runners at second and third with none out in the second inning, but KK Humphreys lined out to the shortstop, who tried to double up Wong at third. The throw got away from the third baseman, Kennedy Powell, but she recovered in time to throw out Wong at home.
Texas A&M (9-0) took a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth on a single and a double with two outs. The Aggies made it 2-0 on a home run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Ducks had two runners on with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Alyssa Daniell flied out to end the game.`
Noteworthy: One of Oregon’s all-time great players, All-American Allee Bunker, was at the stadium on Sunday … Luschar has reached base in all 11 games this season and has scored a run in eight of those 11 games … Luschar stole her team-leading eighth and ninth bases of the season … The Ducks haven’t allowed more than three earned runs in a game since the season-opener against Indiana (four) … Wong was a bright spot at the plate for Oregon this weekend after hitting .364 with a double, a home run and three RBI. She slugged .727 on the weekend.
On Deck: Oregon next heads to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where the Ducks will play five games against Central Florida, Baylor, Notre Dame, Long Beach State and Nebraska Thursday through Saturday in Cathedral City, Calif.
