SEATTLE — Despite four players in double figures and Phillipina Kyei’s 10-point, 21-rebound double-double, Oregon suffered a 74-66 loss at Washington Friday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. Kyei matched her career-high rebound total in extending her Pac-12 lead with her 18th double-double, which moved her into a seventh-place tie in a single season in UO history. Grace VanSlooten led all players with 19 points, while Chance Gray added16 and Kennedy Basham logged a career-high 15 points.“We shot ourselves in the foot,” UO head coach Kelly Graves said. “I thought defensively we had some errors, offensively we had some tough misses. It’s disappointing, we put ourselves in position to win the game, but we didn’t make the winning plays. “But I am really proud of our team, I thought they played hard and played with intensity. When we ran our stuff, we played well and got the shots that we wanted.”The Ducks (11-17, 2-13 Pac-12) and Huskies were tied through three quarters, and UO was within two points with just over four minutes to go before Washington constructed a 12-4 scoring run that pushed its lead to 10 points with 38 seconds remaining.In the fourth, both UO and UW went 7-for-13 from the field, but the Huskies hit on 11-of-12 free throw attempts and converted six turnovers into seven points in outpacing Oregon 26-18.The Ducks led for nearly 23 minutes of game time while Washington led for just over 11 minutes. UW forced 18 Oregon turnovers, which resulted in 16 points. Oregon owned a 38-24 lead in points in the paint.How It Happened: After falling behind early, 6-2, Oregon scored the game’s next 11 points to take a 13-6 lead late in the first quarter. The Huskies hit their first two shots of the game but missed their next 10 attempts. UW did score six of the last eight points of the quarter, trimming the Ducks’ lead to 15-12 after 10 minutes.VanSlooten (8) and Basham (7) accounted for all 15 UO points while Kyei grabbed seven rebounds in the quarter.Neither team was able to manage a run larger than five straight points in the second, but the Huskies finished the half on a 12-4 run, capped by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Ari Long to carry a 31-27 lead into halftime. UO saw just three players score in the first half in VanSlooten (13), Basham (11) and Gray (3). Oregon owned a 21-14 rebounding edge and a 14-10 edge in points in the paint. Despite being held scoreless, Kyei hauled in a dozen first-half rebounds.Kyei got into the scoring column promptly in the second half, as she scored the first four points to even the score at 31. In total, UO began the second half on an 11-2 spurt to create a five-point advantage, 38-33. Ula Chamberlin and Kyei each led the Ducks with six points in the third while Basham added four. UO shot 57 percent in the frame to UW’s 46 percent and the teams were tied at 48 after 30 minutes.UW scored six unanswered points in the fourth, hitting on 5-of-7 shots, to take a 58-54 lead with just under five minutes to play. A VanSlooten jumper brought the Ducks within two with four minutes remaining, but a Dalayah Daniels’ two-pointer followed by a Hannah Stines triple pushed the Huskies’ lead to seven with under three to go.UW outscored Oregon 26-18 in the fourth quarter, despite each team shooting 7-for-13 from the floor. Washington went 11-for-12 from the free throw line while UO was 4-of-4.
Notable: Kyei registered her Pac-12-leading 18th double-double of the season with 10 points and 21 rebounds (tied her career high) … Her 18 double-doubles move her into a seventh-place tie on Oregon’s single-season list … Kyei turned in her third career game with at least 20 rebounds and second this season, as she owns two of UO’s 24 20-rebound double-doubles … Basham tied her career high in points in just the first quarter before finishing with a career-best 15.
