CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team fell to UCF by a 7-2 margin on the early hours of Saturday morning on the second day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
Despite being the first to score when Charity Sevaaetasi crossed home on an E5, the Beavers (6-7) couldn’t keep UCF off the board for long.
The Knights responded to OSU’s second run score with seven across the second, third and fourth innings. The Beavers plated their second run when Lici Campbell drove in Maddy Clark in the fifth.
Kiki Escobar led the Beavers’ offense with a pair of hits while Campbell and Morgan Howey added one.
Logan Hulon (2-4) was charged with the loss after giving up six of the Knights’ runs in 2.2 frames but struck out three. Sarah Haendiges pitched the game’s last 3.1 frames in relief where she had a pair of punchouts but allowed a run off a pair of hits and a walk.
Oregon State will continue play in the Mary Nutter with a two-game Saturday against Notre Dame and Tennessee. First pitch with the Fightin’ Irish is set for approximately noon and 2:30 p.m. against the Lady Vols.
