HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Freshman Kiara Romero shot par-or-better for the 14th time in 17 rounds this season to lead the Oregon women’s golf team on Tuesday in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club.
Romero fired an even-par 71 while fellow freshman Ting-Hsuan Huang came in with a 3-over 74. Huang is the top Duck on the leaderboard in a tie for 24th overall (+2)entering Wednesday’s final round, with Romero in a tie for 31st (+3).
The Ducks are in 17th place at 30-over par following an 18-over 302 in round two.
How it Happened: Romero put together a bogey-free front nine, making birdies at No. 5 and No. 8 to make the turn at 2 under. After three bogeys in four holes to open the back nine, Romero closed with four pars and a birdie at No. 17 to finish with a 71.
Huang made the turn at 3-over par before finding her rhythm on the back nine with nine straight pars.
Minori Nagano (78) and Anika Varma (79) rounded out Oregon’s counting scores.
