OSU SB: Beavers Fall to Ducks in Series Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon used early offense to take the first game of the Rivalry Series from the Oregon State softball team on Friday night with an 11-3 score in six innings.

Following five runs across the first two innings by the homestanding Ducks, Eliana Gottlieb pushed a single to right field and drove in Madyson Clark from second immediately following her double to left to get Oregon State (17-24, 5-11) on the board in the third.  Oregon answered in their fifth with a three-run shot to left center to make it 8-1.

Trying to spark a comeback attempt, Lici Campbell launched a two-run to left center to chip away at the Ducks’ advantage in the top of the sixth. Oregon punched back with three in the ensuing half-inning to seal the game with the eight-run advantage.

Three Beavs – Abby Doerr, Gottlieb and Madison Simon – led the offense with two hits each while Campbell, Clark and Paige Doerr all registered a single hit. Campbell paced Oregon State with a pair from her home run while Clark had one from her third inning single.

Ellie Garcia (6-9) was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs through 5.0 innings from nine hits and a pair of hit batters but struck out a pair. Tossing the game’s final 0.2 in relief, Sarah Haendiges surrendered three runs on four hits and a walk.

The round-tripper by Campbell marked the second consecutive game with a two-run home run. Her other clinched the walkoff win over ranked-Stanford.

The Rivalry Series will continue tomorrow with game two from Jane Sanders Stadium. First pitch against the Ducks is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
