Ducks Sending 44 to NCAA West Prelims

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon track and field team has collected 44 entries for the upcoming NCAA West Preliminary. Regional selections and national qualifiers in the combined events were released Thursday. This year’s meet will be contested May 22-25 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Ducks’ 44 entries—17 men, 27 women—are represented by 37 individuals and three relays. Oregon will have four competing in two individual events with Jadyn Mays (100/200), Devin Hart (5,000/10,000), Jaida Ross (shot put/discus) and Shelby Moran (hammer/discus).

Oregon will have a trio of entries in three events: Elliott Cook, Rheinhardt Harrison and Tomas Palfrey in the men’s 1500; Klaudia Kazimierska, Mia Barnett and Melissa Berry in the women’s 1500; and Maddy Elmore, Şilan Ayyildiz and Dalia Frias in the women’s 5,000 meters.

For a second-consecutive season, the Ducks’ multis duo of Rafael Raap and Taylor Chocek earned NCAA spots in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively. The UO men have had at least one decathlon entry in 15 of the past 16 NCAA meets.

To mirror the format of the national meet, the preliminary rounds will be contested over four days with alternating men’s and women’s programs. The NCAA East Preliminary will take place the same weekend in Lexington, Ky., hosted by the University of Kentucky. The top 12 in each event from both sites qualify for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 5-8) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
