EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon football linebacker Bryce Boettcher was honored on Tuesday as the Burlsworth Trophy Walk-On of the Week for his performance in the Ducks’ 49-14 win at Oregon State last Saturday.
To be eligible for Burlsworth Trophy recognition, a player must have begun his FBS college football career as a walk-on.
A dual-sport athlete who was drafted in the 13th round of the MLB Draft by the Houston Astros over the summer, Boettcher is in his third and final season playing football for the Ducks. He led Oregon with a career-high 11 total tackles last week vs. Oregon State while also recording the first two pass breakups of his career.
Boettcher has started two of Oregon’s first three games for the Ducks in 2024 and leads the team with 25 total tackles, including 10 solo. His 88.9 overall grade from Pro Football Focus this season leads all Duck defenders, as does his 88.4 coverage grade.
In his final baseball season for the Ducks in 2024, Boettcher hit .276 with a career-high 14 home runs and 48 RBIs while becoming the fifth player in program history to be named to the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team.
Boettcher and the No. 9 Ducks (3-0) are on a bye this week before opening Big Ten Conference play next Saturday, Sept. 28, at UCLA (1-1).
