EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon football’s Jordan Burch was announced as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his dominant performance in the Ducks’ 31-10 win over Michigan State last Friday.
Burch was also announced on Monday as the Reese’s Senior Bowl Co-Defensive Player of the Week, and the Shrine Bowl Breakout Defensive Player of the Week.
Burch racked up a career-high 2.5 sacks in the win over the Spartans, while also finishing with four tackles and his first career fumble recovery. He became the first Duck since 2007 to record at least 2.5 sacks in a game in Autzen Stadium.
With 3.5 sacks in his last two games Burch is now tied for the Big Ten lead and tied for No. 8 nationally with a career-high 5.0 sacks through just five games. He is also fourth in the Big Ten and tied for 25th in the country with 7.0 tackles for loss, just 0.5 shy of his career high as the Ducks enter Week 7. Burch is tied for second among Ducks with 19 total tackles.
Burch and the No. 3 Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) will host No. 2 Ohio State (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) in a marquee matchup this Saturday at Autzen Stadium (4:30 p.m. PT, NBC). It will be the first-ever top-five showdown in Autzen Stadium history, and ESPN’s “College GameDay” pregame show will be on site Saturday morning.
