Gabriel Named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel was announced on Monday as the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Oregon’s historic win over No. 2 Ohio State last Saturday in Autzen Stadium. Gabriel shares the honor with Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.

Oregon has now claimed a conference honor five weeks in a row. Tez Johnson was the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after UO’s win over Boise State, and he was the Co-Offensive Player of the Week following a win at UCLA. Atticus Sappington was the Special Teams Player of the Week following the Ducks’ win at Oregon State, and Jordan Burch was the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Oregon’s win over Michigan State.

Also on Monday, Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon was announced as the Reese’s Senior Bowl Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Playing in front of an Autzen Stadium record 60,129 fans, Gabriel led the Ducks to their highest-ranked home win in program history. Oregon’s quarterback completed 23-of-34 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for a key 27-yard touchdown that gave the Ducks a 29-28 lead in the fourth quarter.

Gabriel surpassed 300 passing yards in a game for the second time this season, and he has thrown multiple touchdowns in each of his first six games as a Duck.

On the season, Gabriel is No. 2 in the country with a 76.1 completion percentage while ranking tied for sixth in completions (153), ninth in passing yards per game (298.3), 12th in passer rating (169.27) and tied for 21st in passing touchdowns (13).

Harmon was disruptive once again for the Ducks against the Buckeyes, making three solo tackles while also forcing and recovering a key fumble early in the game that helped swing momentum back to Oregon. Harmon earned a stellar 95.0 run-defense grade from Pro Football Focus as well as an 86.0 overall grade, and he was credited with three total pressures.

Harmon has racked up 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks while forcing two fumbles through his first six games as a Duck. He leads all FBS interior defensive linemen with 28 total pressures this season, according to PFF, while ranking third in both overall (88.4) and pass-rush grade (87.3).

Harmon is the second Duck in a row to be named the Senior Bowl Co-Defensive Player of the Week, after Burch earned the honor following Oregon’s win over Michigan State.
