CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kirk Walker – the winningest head coach in program history and of a women’s team at Oregon State – has been named to the LGBTQ Sports Hall of Fame, presented by the Sports Equality Foundation.
Walker led the Beavers’ softball program for 18 years, which saw a Pac-10 title, 10 trips (including nine consecutive) to the NCAA Tournament, a super regional and the 2006 Women’s College World Series. The two-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year amassed a 594-491-3 record during his time in Corvallis.
Six teams (1999, 2000, 2004-07) under the direction of Walker won at least 40 games, which included a school-record 28-game winning streak in 2006 on the way to Oklahoma City.
Brianne McGowan and Cambria Miranda earned All-American honors under Walker’s guidance.
During his time in Corvallis, Walker was one of 12 coaches that formed the USA National Softball National Team Coaches Pool through the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He served as an assistant coach for the USA Elite Team during the summers of 2002-04 while an assistant for the USA Red National Team at various events during the summer of 2001.
The LGBTQ Sports Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, executives and advocates who have made an enduring impact on the sports world through leadership, visibility and commitment to inclusion. Walker will be officially inducted on August 10, 2025 in Las Vegas.
