CORVALLIS – Oregon State head coach Greg Dalby and senior Javier Armas will be suspended for the College Cup, as a result of illegal participation in Saturday’s match vs. North Carolina.
Armas competed in the quarterfinal contest with eight accumulated yellow cards, a total which made him ineligible to take part in the game. Oregon State self-reported the violation to the NCAA early this week upon discovering the violation. The penalty assessed is a two-match suspension for Armas and four-game suspension for Dalby.
“I am incredibly sad for Javi and that he will not be able to take part in the College Cup,” Dalby said. “At no fault of his own, he will have to lead our team from the bench this weekend in proud fashion. While I am disappointed with the NCAA’s interpretation and assessment of an accounting error, I am proudly the Head Coach of this program and the responsibility lies with me. At no point in time would I ever put my players, staff, or program in jeopardy by knowingly breaking the rules. As has been the story of our season, our team’s personality and resolve will be on full display tomorrow night in the College Cup.”
Assistant coaches Jarred Brookins and Sergi Nus will share in-game head coaching duties for the remainder of the 2023 season.
