Barnett’s Top-20 Finish Leads Ducks at Nuttycombe

The Women of Oregon finished in ninth place at Friday’s Nuttycombe Invitational.

MADISON, Wis. – Junior Mia Barnett ran to an 18th-place finish Friday afternoon at the Nuttycombe Invitational, pacing the UO women to a ninth-place team showing. Over the final third of the 6K race, the Ducks made up two spots to finish inside the top 10. Friday’s race featured 15 of the top-30 ranked teams in the country.

Barnett, runner-up at the season-opening Pre’s Trail Run three weeks prior, continued the strong start to her season with a 6K time of 20.30.7 on the Zimmer Championship Course. She was the first Oregon runner and fourth Big Ten competitor across the line. Newcomer Wilma Nielsen and Anika Thompson were the second and third UO runners in 35th and 62nd place, respectively.

A pair of Oregon freshmen rounded out the team’s top five with Charlotte Sinke and Ali Ince, both in their official debuts in a UO kit. Sinke and Ince raced unattached at the Pre’s Trail Run (Sept. 6).
