Beavers Battle Aztecs to Draw

CORVALLIS  –  The Oregon State men’s soccer team battled No. 22 San Diego State to a 2-2 draw in a hard-fought contest Sunday afternoon at Lorenz Field.

The teams went back-and-forth throughout the match, with the Beavers striking first on a Dante Williams goal, before the Aztecs tied things up in the second half. Logan Farrington put the Beavers in front from the penalty spot with three minutes to play, but the Aztecs were able to level the score with 57 seconds to go.

Farrington’s tally was his eighth of the year, while Williams notched his third.

Overall, Oregon State took 11 shots in the match, compared to nine for San Diego State. With the draw, OSU extends its unbeaten run in conference home matches to 11. Oregon State also remains undefeated in conference play this year with a mark of 2-0-3.

The Beavers were on the front-foot early on, as Fabian Straudi had a pair of shots blocked within the first five minutes of the contest. Oregon State capitalized in the 12th minute, when Williams dribbled the ball 30 yards before firing in the game’s first goal from 19 yards out.

Farrington came within inches of adding a second in the 23rd, but his header was just over the crossbar. Oregon State headed to the break in front by a goal.

The teams went back-and-forth early in the second half, but San Diego State was able to even things up in the 65th minute, as the Aztecs hammered home a cross that was deflected on its way through the box.

San Diego State was whistled for a handball in the box in the 87th minute, and Farrington fired home the ensuing penalty kick to give Oregon State the lead. The Aztecs answered with less than a minute to play, heading in a corner kick to split the points.

The Beavers will hit the road next weekend for a Saturday matchup with Portland.
