Beavers Blast Into Quarters With 7-1 Triumph

DALLAS, Texas – The Oregon State men’s soccer team has matched its deepest ever run in the NCAA Tournament, as the Beavers punched their ticket to the Quarterfinals with an emphatic 7-1 win over 6-seeded SMU Saturday evening in Dallas, Texas.

Oregon State will make its second-ever appearance in the final eight of the Tournament, after doing so in the 2021 season.

Logan Farrington and Dante Williams each scored two goals as part of Oregon State’s offensive explosion. Arnau Farnos, Vicho Castro and Ellis Spikner netted one goal apiece.

The Beavers have now set a program best for postseason wins in a season with three. The seven-goal outburst marked OSU’s highest scoring contest since it netted 11 against Northwest Christian in 2014.

The Mustangs struck early, as Luis Castillo made a stop in the Beavers net but the SMU forward was first to the rebound to put the Mustangs in front in the seventh minute. Oregon State responded by putting pressure on the SMU net, earning back-to-back corners in the 10th minute.

Oregon State evened things up in the 32nd minute, as Farnos capitalized with a rocket from 19 yards out. Williams tacked on a Beaver second just before the break, as Farrington had his shot saved before his teammate hammered it home to put Oregon State in front 2-1 heading to the intermission.

Farrington came up with a couple of scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second 45. The forward made good on his opportunity in the 55th, as he redirected a rebound into the open net from point-blank range.

Castro scored Oregon State’s fourth in the 62nd, and Williams made it five in the 67th, as the Beavers broke the match open in the second half.

Farrington came up with his second in the 76th to bring the Beaver total to six. Spikner made it seven in the 80th.

Overall the Beavers out-shot the Mustangs 24-13 in the contest.

Oregon State advances to take on the winner of Sunday’s matchup between North Carolina and Hofstra. Their quarterfinal match will take place on Dec. 1 or 2. Stay tuned to OSUBeavers.com for game updates.
