SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon State men’s soccer team earned its second victory over a ranked opponent this season, as the Beavers took down No. 22 Washington 2-0 Saturday evening in Seattle.
With the win, Oregon State moved to 5-3-1 on the season, and improves to 2-0-1 in Pac-12 play, as the Beavers take sole possession of first place in the conference with seven points. OSU also extends its road-winning streak against Washington to the teams’ last four meetings in Seattle.
Logan Farrington scored the first goal of the contest, as he notched his conference-leading eight marker of the season. Dante Williams recorded the Beavers’ second.
Oregon State nearly took the lead in the 15th minute, when a cross from Ellis Spikner found Fran Cortijo who forced a save from six yards out. Farrington followed that up by putting a shot just wide of the post in the 24th minute.
Farrington gave the Beavers the lead in the 36th, as he turned a scramble in the box into an Oregon State advantage. OSU tacked on another strike just before the break, as Williams gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Farrington forced a save from a tight angle early in the second half, and the forward came close again in the 53rd minute when his sliding attempts swerved just outside the post.
Washington pressed forward in the latter phases of the match, but Oregon State refused to yield, as the team locked down the shutout. Luis Castillo held a clean sheet in goal.
As a team, OSU placed four shots on goal, compared to one for the Huskies.
The Beavers will return home on Thursday to take on UCLA.
