Beavers Punch Ticket to Round of 16

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s soccer team has advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament by virtue of a 3-0 win over Portland Sunday evening at Merlo Field.

This marks the second time the Beavers have made it to the Round of 16. Oregon State advances to face SMU in Dallas later this week.

Logan Farrington found the net twice, bringing his total to scored his 13 goals on the season, as he moved into fifth in Oregon State history for goals in a campaign. Andrew De Gannes netted the Beaver third to secure the win.

The Beavers out-shot the Pilots 13-11 in the contest.

The Beavers struck first, opening the scoring in the ninth minute as Farrington headed a cross off the post and into the net. Oregon State headed to the break leading by a goal.

Pere Belmonte nearly doubled the Oregon State advantage in the 53rd minute, but his effort was just over the crossbar.

Farrington netted his second in the 64th minute, as he hammered one home off assists from Dante Williams and Belmonte.

Belmonte forced a sprawling save in the 78th minute. De Gannes slotted one home in the 79th minute to seal the Beaver victory. The Pilots were reduced to 10-men in the closing minutes, as Oregon State closed out the three-goal triumph.

Luis Castillo held a clean sheet in the Beaver net.
