Beavers Score 19 In Series-Opening Win Over NDSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sixth-ranked Oregon State scored 19 runs off 11 hits and 15 walks in a 19-7 win over North Dakota State Thursday in the Beavers’ 2024 home opener at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Elijah Hainline accounted for three of the Beavers’ 11 hits, driving in five off two singles and a double. He also scored two runs and walked once in the win.

Oregon State (8-1 overall) was also hit by five pitches in the win, with Jacob Krieg getting plunked three times.

Trent Caraway went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Travis Bazzana also tallied two hits with two RBI and three walks. Krieg doubled and finished with three RBI on the day, while Micah McDowell, who extended his hit streak to nine games, drove in three as well.

North Dakota State (2-6) put five runs on the board in the first, but OSU answered back with four in the bottom half of the inning. The Bison scored a sixth run in the second, but the Beavers went ahead with five in the second. OSU extended the lead to 12-6 with three more in the fourth, then 15-6 with three in the fifth.

The game was halted after North Dakota State’s top half of the seventh due to a 10-run rule.

AJ Hutcheson, the second of four pitchers for the Beavers, earned the win to improve to 1-1 on the year. He scattered three hits and a run in three innings while striking out two.

Oregon State Notes

– Both Trent Caraway and Micah McDowell have hit safely in all nine games this season.

– Elijah Hainline’s five RBI marked a single-game high. His previous high was four against Villanova last season while a member of Washington State.

– Every Oregon State starter recorded at least one RBI while seven of the nine posted at least one hit.

– Every OSU starter reached base safely at least once.

– The Beavers ended the month of February with 99 hits, 44 of which went for extra bases. The Beavers recorded three doubles Thursday to give them 22 in nine games this season.

– Travis Bazzana’s two hits gave him six games of two or more this season, which leads the team.

– Oregon State has reached double-digit runs in five of nine games this season.

– OSU swiped a season-high four bases and has 13 in 17 attempts this season.

– The Beavers’ 15 walks are the most by a Pac-12 team this season, surpassing 13 by UCLA against Gonzaga on Feb. 18.

– Mitch Canham is now 33-8 in the month of February as the Pat Casey Head Baseball Coach.

– The meeting was the second between the teams, and first since the 2014 Corvallis Regional, a game OSU won 2-1.
