Bridges, Hutson On Preseason Watch Lists

EUGENE, Ore. — Preseason recognition continued to roll in for the Oregon football team on Thursday as defensive back Trikweze Bridges was named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy and wide receiver Kris Hutson landed on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award.

The Wuerffel Trophy, presented by the Wuerffel Foundation, is college football’s premiere award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports. The award is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Wuerffel Trophy embodies Danny’s commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society.

Bridges is one of 108 FBS players on the Wuerffel Trophy preseason watch list. Bridges leads the Ducks in community service hours so far in 2023, volunteering at organizations such as the Moss Street Children’s Center and Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Eugene. Bridges has also volunteered at various youth football camps and community clean-up events, and in 2022 he traveled to Guatemala with Courts for Kids to construct a sports court for the local community.

Hutson is one of 53 players on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, which is given annually to the most versatile player in college football by the Louisville Sports Commission. Hutson is one of seven Pac-12 players on the list.
