CORVALLIS, Ore. – 12th-ranked UCLA put up six runs in a four-frame stretch to take the series’ first game against Oregon State on Friday in a 6-1 game.
Madyson Clark’s 3-for-3 day with a solo home run highlighted the Beavers’ (15-20, 3-7 Pac-12) offense in their first home game in nearly a month.
UCLA struck first in the second with three off a home run and a two-RBI single from a Beaver throwing error before Clark’s homer pulled the Beavers within two before the Bruins answered back with three across the third and fifth for insurance runs.
Clark’s seventh-inning single – her third hit of the day – looked to spark a late rally but the OSU offense came up short when a Morgan Howey slap was caught in center.
Abby Doerr’s eight-game Pac-12 hitting streak was snapped following an 0-for-3 performance at the plate.
Sarah Haendiges (7-6) was charged with the loss after allowing all six runs on eight hits and four walks but struck out two.
Game two of the three-game set is slated for 2 p.m.and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
