SAN FRANCISCO – A brand-new episode of “Pac-12 Playlist,” presented by New York Life, featuring former California rugby player Robert Paylor and former Oregon football standout Derrick Malone Jr., airs tonight at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.

Hosts Ashley Adamson and Mike Yam sit down with Paylor, who suffered a life-altering injury in the 2017 National Rugby Championship game that nearly completely paralyzed him, and was told he would never walk again. Paylor talks about his journey over these last three years, from finding joy out of his situation, to the importance of serving as an inspiration to others.

“The last thing I want for myself or anyone is pity. I do not want anyone to feel sorry for me,” said Paylor. “I don’t want someone to look at me and start to feel sad, and depressed, and bad, and think about what could have been. My life is incredible. My life is amazing, and I hope when people look at me and they get to talk to me, they’re inspired. They’re inspired by what I’ve done and what they can go do in their lives. This story is not depressing, it’s not sad, but it’s happy. It’s uplifting and it shows the good in humanity and the things that we can do.”

Also tonight, Malone Jr. chats with Adamson and Yogi Roth about his own battles with mental health, and the progress mental health awareness has made with the help of athletes like Kevin Love speaking out about their own struggles.

Paylor and Malone Jr.’s extended interviews are available now on the “Pac-12 Perspective” podcast, presented by Nike, available wherever fans get their podcasts. Tomorrow, Washington Athletic Director Jen Cohen joins the show.
