Chris Clayton to Be Voice of Oregon WBB

EUGENE, Ore. – Longtime radio and television broadcaster Chris Clayton has been appointed as Oregon women’s basketball radio play-by-play announcer, Oregon Athletics announced Friday.

Clayton, a UO alum, served as the team’s interim play-by-play voice last season in the place of the late Terry Jonz, and will be installed as the Ducks’ full-time broadcaster in 2024-25.

“I am beyond proud and honored to be in this position,” said Clayton. “It is truly a dream come true to be able to put on the headset and broadcast Ducks games. This is not a position I take lightly, as some of my most fond and cherished memories as a child include being with my dad listening on the radio to the late, great Terry Jonz and Jerry Allen call Duck games.

“I hope to do Terry, Jerry and Joey Mac proud as I describe the accomplishments and exciting moments to come for Oregon women’s basketball. Kelly Graves and the coaching staff have been amazingly welcoming and kind since I began filling in last season, which I greatly appreciate. Thank you to them, and to all the Ducks fans that have tuned in and will hopefully continue to tune in. I hope they’re all as excited as I am for the upcoming season, it can’t get here soon enough. Go Ducks!”

Clayton has more than a decade of radio and TV play-by-play broadcasting experience. In addition to serving as the Ducks’ play-by-play voice last season, he has also called volleyball and lacrosse for the Pac-12 Network. Actively calling games on ESPN+ for local and regional universities, he broadcasts University of Portland women’s soccer, and previously University of Idaho women’s basketball, soccer and volleyball. He also has experience stepping in to call games on ESPN+ for Portland State University.

Proudly active in the Oregon high school sports community, he has called Oregon School Activities Association state championships on radio and web streams. This includes swimming, track and field, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball and football.

A native of Medford, Clayton moved to Portland and back to his home state of Oregon in 2022 from North Dakota, where he worked for BEK Communications for three years calling games on TV, including the nationally broadcast Indoor Football League “Game of the Week” on Stadium. Previously, he worked for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke athletic department calling all sports on radio and web streams, in addition to creating content. He also served as Sports Director of KLGA radio in Algona, Iowa.

During his time as a student at UO, Clayton served as sports director of the student radio station KWVA. He grew up in southern Oregon and is a graduate of South Medford High School.
