Cristin Cline averaged 11.00 assists per set during the team’s recent road trip.
EUGENE, Ore. – Cristin Cline has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week as released Monday afternoon by the league office. The redshirt freshman setter averaged 11.00 assists per set during the Ducks’ road trip to Wisconsin and Iowa.
Cline opened the weekend with 43 assists, nine digs, two service aces and a block in a four-set match against ninth-ranked Wisconsin. Four players had at least nine kills and it was her third outing of the year with multiple aces.
In Sunday’s match at Iowa, Cline had 45 assists and directed the Ducks to a .328 hitting percentage. It was the team’s eighth time eclipsing the .300 mark this season. All five of Cline’s primary options, put down at least seven kills including double-digit efforts from Mimi Colyer and Michelle Ohwobete for a second-consecutive match.
Cline added six digs, three blocks and a kill against the Hawkeyes.
The Stanfield, N.C., native is averaging 10.47 assists per set this season which is good for 24th in the NCAA. Collectively, Oregon also ranks among the top 30 in the nation in hitting percentage (.266).
Cline is now the third Duck to earn weekly Big Ten honors this season, joining Onye Ofoegbu and Mimi Colyer. Ofoegbu was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in late September while Colyer was the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week.
For a fifth-consecutive week, Oregon (14-3, 6-2 Big Ten) checks in at No. 11 in the AVCA poll. Oregon plays four of its next five matches at home beginning Friday against Maryland (6 p.m., B1G+).
