Conerly Goes To Commanders With 29th Overall Pick

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon football program had multiple first-round picks in the NFL Draft for the first time since 2015 on Thursday as offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. was selected by the Washington Commanders with the No. 29 overall pick.

Conerly follows defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, who was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 21 overall pick. It is the fourth time in program history that Oregon has had multiple first-round selections in the same year (2025, 2015, 2013, 1972).

Oregon now has seven first-round selections in the last six years, with Conerly and Harmon following Bo Nix (2024), Christian Gonzalez (2023), Kayvon Thibodeaux (2022), Penei Sewell (2021) and Justin Herbert (2020).

Conerly is the 24th first-round pick in program history, and he gives Oregon 12 first-round selections since 2013 and 15 since 2000. He joins Penei Sewell (2020), Kyle Long (2013) and Tim Drougas (1972) as UO offensive linemen to be selected in the first round.

A five-star recruit out of Seattle, Conerly played in all 41 games for the Ducks over the last three seasons. He saw the field primarily as an extra offensive lineman as a freshman in 2022 before taking over as Oregon’s starting left tackle for each of the last two seasons.

Conerly was an Associated Press third-team all-American and an all-Big Ten first-team selection in 2024 while anchoring a UO offensive line that was selected as a Joe Moore Award finalist for the second year in a row. He played 929 snaps at left tackle and allowed just one sack and nine total pressures in 494 pass-blocking opportunities.

As a sophomore in 2023, Conerly led the Ducks with 901 total offensive snaps played and helped Oregon lead the nation in fewest sacks allowed with just five. He surrendered just one sack and 17 pressures in 511 opportunities while helping UO lead the nation in passing offense (346.9 YPG).

After setting the program record with eight NFL Draft picks in 2024, Oregon is expected to once again rewrite history this weekend after having a record 12 players invited to the NFL Combine. The 2025 NFL Draft continues on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. PT (ESPN, ABC, NFL Network).
