Ducks Close Fall with Fourth Straight Top-Five Finish

 

KAILUA KONA, Hawaii – Led by a strong day from junior Alexis Phadungmartvorakul, the Oregon women’s golf team shot 2 under on Wednesday to finish tied for fifth place at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club.

The No. 15 Ducks tied with No. 1 Stanford at 4 over for the tournament to record their fourth straight top-five finish in the final event of their fall season. No. 8 Arizona won the Pac-12 Preview at 19 under, two strokes ahead of No. 22 UCLA.

How it Happened: Phadungmartvorakul fired a 4-under 69 in the third and final round to help the Ducks finish under par on the day. The Taft, Calif., native was even through her first 10 holes before carding an eagle on the par-4 second hole to get to 2 under. Phadungmartvorakul, who finished the tournament tied for 17th at even par, bogeyed the next hole, but came right back with three straight birdies before finishing her round with a par.

Freshman Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen capped a strong tournament with an even-par round of 73 while recording four birdies. The Denmark native was Oregon’s top individual finisher for the event, closing the fall in a tie for 13th at 1 under overall.

Sophomore Tze-Han (Heather) Lin joined Phadungmartvorakul under par in the final round, recording her best round of the tournament with a 1-under 72. Lin led the Ducks with five birdies on the day, and she closed the tournament tied for 32nd at 7 over.

Freshman Ching-Tzu Chen shot a 3-over 76 on Wednesday, and senior Amy Matsuoka rounded out the lineup with a 6-over 79. Matsuoka, who shot a career-best 5-under 68 in Monday’s opening round, finished tied for 30th overall, while Chen closed in a tie for 36th.
