Ducks Enter Record Book In Opening Tournament 

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. –The 22nd-ranked Oregon men’s golf team shot a collective 31-under par – the fifth-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history – to open the season at the 2023 Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Three Ducks finished in the top 25 as UO tied for sixth in the tournament. 

How It Happened 

Owen Avrit was the top finisher for Oregon, tying for 13th with a 10-under 203 despite shooting 2-over on Sunday. After entering the final round tied for 48th, Greyson Leach fired a 5-under 66 to charge up the leaderboard and finish the tournament tied for 22nd at 6-under. Leach sank five-straight birdies on holes 13 through 17 before making par on the final hole. 

Aiden Krafft shot his third-straight round under par Sunday with a 69, finishing the weekend at 5-under to tie for 25th. Nate Stember was even par on the final day, tying for 29th at 4-under. Greg Solhaug finished the tournament strong with a 3-under 68, breaking par for the weekend and finishing 1-under. Oregon shot a 10-under 274 on the final day and shot 10-under or better in each of its three rounds.

“This tournament was a shootout and we just couldn’t quite get out of our way in each round,” head coach Casey Martin said. “We had a few too many mistakes, but the guys did some good things this weekend. This is an experienced group and I think they’ll do well this year.”

The Ducks travel north for the Husky Invitational in Bremerton, Wash. The two-day event kicks off on Monday, Sept. 18, at Gold Mountain’s Olympic Course.
