EUGENE, Ore. – Emma Eddy found herself alone one-on-one with Buffalo’s goalkeeper, Emily Kelly, in the 43rd minute of Sunday night’s match at Pape’ Field. With the potential game-tying goal at her feet, Eddy’s shot was smothered by a charging Kelly, and the Ducks went into halftime down 1-0.
However when Eddy found herself in the same situation in overtime, the senior from Eugene, Ore., lifted a shot over a charging Kelly and into the back of the net for the game-winning golden goal and a 2-1 victory over the visiting Bulls.
“It felt really good, especially since I missed the first one in the first half,” said Eddy of her first goal of the season. “I felt really bad about that, so it felt good to get that in.
“I was just thinking that I had to get that one in, since I missed the last one. This has to be it.”
The win also gave Oregon head coach Kat Mertz her 100th career coaching victory.
How It Happened: The Ducks (4-1-3) overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with a second half goal by Zoe Hasenauer.
In the first half, Buffalo (3-3-1) took advantage of an Oregon foul in the penalty box. The Bulls’ Marcy Barberic scored the penalty kick to the right corner of the net in the 29th minute.
Oregon outshot the Bulls 13-2 in the second half as Hasenauer swung the momentum back to Oregon’s side by heading in a Sakura Yoshida corner kick in the 63rd minute to knot the game at 1-1.
The Ducks continued to press in overtime, outshooting the Bulls 6-0.
After the Ducks forced a turnover at midfield, Lilli Rask dribbled the ball up the right side and centered it to Emma Eddy, who split two defenders before beating Kelly in the 98th minute.
