Ducks In Third After Balanced Second Round

LAKE ELMO, Minn. — The Oregon women’s golf team will enter the final round of the Annika Intercollegiate in third place after four different Ducks shot under par in the second round on Tuesday at Royal Golf Club.

The Ducks finished the day with a 6-under 282 to move to 14-under par for the tournament, seven strokes behind South Carolina (-21) for the lead and four back of Wake Forest (-18) for second place. Oregon moved past San Jose State for third place on Tuesday, with the Spartans now in fourth at 10 under.

Minori Nagano and Briana Chacon each fired a 2-under 70 to lead the way for Oregon, while Ashleigh Park and Kiara Romero came in right behind with 1-under 71s.

Romero – who dazzled in her collegiate debut on Monday with a 5-under 67 – remains the top Duck on the leaderboard in a tie for third overall at 6 under. Chacon is right behind in a tie for eighth overall at 5 under, and Nagano gives Oregon three players in the top 15 at 2 under.

How it Happened: Nagano got her day off to a hot start, opening with seven pars before carding back-to-back birdies to make the turn at 2 under. The senior sunk her third birdie in five holes on No. 12 before following with a bogey, and a birdie-bogey finish brought her into the clubhouse with a 70.

Chacon spent much of her day at even par with two birdies and two bogeys through the first 14 holes. She made par on No. 15 and No. 16, and then rattled off back-to-back birdies to match Nagano at 2 under and finish under par for the second day in a row.

Romero faced more adversity after a bogey-free debut on Monday, making four in her second round as a Duck. But she offset those bogeys with a stretch of four birdies in a row from No. 7 to No. 10, and she bounced back from a bogey at No. 17 with a birdie at No. 18 to come in under par.

Park matched Chacon and Nagano with just two bogeys on the day to shoot under par for the first time this season. An all-Pac-12 first-team selection last season, Park was 1 over through 11 holes before shooting 2 under across her final seven.
