NAPA, Calif. — The Oregon women’s golf team moved up five spots on the leaderboard into a tie for seventh at the Chevron Silverado Showdown after carding a 6-over 297 in the second round on Tuesday at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
The No. 16 Ducks improved by three strokes from Monday’s opening round and are within two strokes of the top five. No. 9 USC leads the team race at 3-under par.
Oregon was led by a pair of true freshmen as Ting-Hsuan Huang fired a 1-under 71 and Kiara Romero came in with an even-par 72.
How it Happened: The Ducks started Tuesday’s round on the back nine, where the five players in the lineup combined to make nine birdies compared to four later in the day on the front nine.
Huang was 1 over through three holes before ripping off three birdies in four holes to get to 2-under par. A pair of bogeys brought her back to even with three holes to go, but she bounced back quickly with a birdie and two pars to finish under par for the second time this season.
