Ducks Sign MAAC DPOY Elisa Mevius

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon has added 2023-24 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Siena-transfer Elisa Mevius to the Ducks’ 2024-25 roster, head women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves announced Wednesday.

Mevius, a 5-foot-10 rising junior guard from Rendsburg, Germany, is a two-time all-MAAC selection while also being named 2022-23 MAAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman. This season, Mevius set the Siena and MAAC single-season steals records with 135 (4.5 per game), which rank second in all of Division I. In addition to her defensive-player-of-the-year award, she took home 2023-24 first-team all-MAAC honors and was a third-team and all-rookie team selection following the 2022-23 campaign.

In her sophomore season, Mevius averaged 12.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 4.5 steals per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field (all career highs), leading the MAAC in both assists and steals. She produced Siena’s first-ever triple-double on March 7 at Rider, scoring 16 points while grabbing 16 rebounds and handing out 10 assists, earning her MAAC player-of-the-week recognition.

She scored in double figures 22 times this past season, including a pair of 20-point efforts, while tallying eight double-doubles – including two point-assist double-doubles. Mevius tallied multiple steals in all 30 games in her sophomore season and had at least five steals on 15 occasions, including a career-high eight in the Saints’ MAAC Tournament quarterfinal matchup with Mount St. Mary’s, setting a tournament record.

As a freshman, Mevius collected four MAAC rookie-of-the-week awards and became the first player in league history to sweep both the player- and rookie-of-the-week honors on Feb. 13, 2023. She averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game and ranked sixth nationally among all freshmen in assists.

She scored a career-high 26 points during her initial collegiate season against Niagara on Feb. 11, 2023, one of her three 20-point scoring performances that season. Mevius logged 13 double-digit scoring games as a freshman and finished with the fourth-highest free throw shooting percentage in the conference at 80.4, while also ranking fourth in assists per game and sixth in steals per game.

In her two seasons with the Saints, Mevius averaged 11.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 41.8 percent from the floor. She played in all 62 games, making 61 starts and playing 32.7 minutes a night. In her career, she has 35 games with 10 or more points, five games with at least 20 points, seven double-digit rebounding performances, four games with 10 or more assists and 49 games with multiple steals.

Additionally, Mevius has shined on the international stage, spending last summer leading her native Germany to the finals of the 2023 FIBA 3×3 U21 Nations League in Mongolia. She also helped Germany to a second-place finish at the U17 Euro Cup, a fourth-place showing at the U18 FIBA World Cup and a fourth-place finish at the U21 Nations League.

Mevius will be a junior when the 2024-25 season begins and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Graves on Mevius: Elisa is incredibly talented and a relentless defender. She immediately upgrades our backcourt both in terms of skill and leadership. She really is a five-tool type of player who can score, defend, rebound and distribute to teammates. A player like that, and with her positive attitude and willingness to work hard, can fit into any system and be successful. We can’t wait to get her here to Eugene and see what she can do.
