Ducks Struggle at Campbell/Cartier Classic

SAN DIEGO – Errors proved costly Friday as No. 17 Oregon dropped both ends of a doubleheader at the Campbell/Cartier Classic.

The Ducks gave up two unearned runs in a 4-1 loss to Texas A&M and allowed two more unearned runs in a 4-0 loss to LMU.

Texas A&M 4, Oregon 1

How it Happened: The Aggies (5-0) scored twice in the second inning on four hits to take a 2-0 lead.

Oregon (4-4) answered with a run in the bottom of the third.

Kai Luschar reached on a one-out single. She moved to second following a hit by KK Humphreys before Ariel Carlson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Alyssa Daniell drove in Luschar with a sharp single to left that cut A&M’s lead to 2-1.

The Aggies scored a couple of unearned runs in the top of the sixth to make it 4-1.

Oregon brought the tying run to the plate with no outs in the bottom of the sixth after Daniell singled to center and Emma Kauf walked. But Hanna Delgado popped out and pinch-hitters Kedre Luschar and Katie Flannery both struck out.

Luschar went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the seventh consecutive game. She reached base in all four plate appearances. Daniell was also 2-for-3.

LMU 4, Oregon 0

How it Happened: The Ducks fell into a hole when the Lions (2-3) plated a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third.

It was a pitcher’s duel into the sixth inning with both Oregon’s Stevie Hansen and Jenna Perez of LMU holding the opposition scoreless.

Jasmine Sofowora hit a two-run home run for the Lions in the bottom of the sixth that made it 4-0.

Hansen went the distance in a tough-luck loss. She yielded four runs – two unearned – on six hits. She struck out three and walked one in her first complete game of the season.

Tehya Bird was 2-for-3 for the Ducks.

Noteworthy: Luschar has reached base in all eight games this season.

On Deck: Oregon will face LMU (12:30 p.m.) and host San Diego State (5:30 p.m.) on the second day of the Campbell/Cartier Classic.
