Emeralds Complete 6-Game Sweep in Everett

By: Jacob Archer

The Emeralds were able to win their 6th straight game and complete the sweep against the AquaSox. They took tonight’s game by a final score of 5-1.

It was a quiet ballgame for the most part tonight, as the two teams didn’t score a run through the first 6 innings and each club had just 1 total base hit. It took until the top of the 7th for the Emeralds to get on the board. For the 2nd straight night, Andrew Kachel delivered the go-ahead pair of RBI’s. He ripped a 2-out single and both Matt Higgins and Thomas Gavello came home to score on the play.

The Frogs were able to get on the board in the bottom of the 8th to cut the deficit to just one run. The Emeralds answered back in a big way in the op of the 9th and added 3 runs of insurance. Andrew Kachel was able to score on an RBI-Single from Diego Velasquez to bring the lead back to two runs for the Ems. That brought up Matt Higgins who delivered a 2-out RBI-Single that scored both Turner Hill and Diego Velasquez on the play.

Cam Cotter pitched the 9th inning and slammed the door shut on Everett. The Ems pitching staff was fantastic all week and it was on display once again tonight. Seth Lonsway got the start for the Ems and he pitched 5 innings of 1-hit baseball and struck out 4. Tyler Vogel pitched the 6th and 7th and didn’t allow a single hit. He earned the win in tonight’s ballgame for his 2nd of the season. Matt Mikulski pitched the 8th and gave up an unearned run and Cotter pitched a scoreless 9th inning. It was an impressive day for the Ems pitching staff tonight in Everett.

The Ems will now head home and get ready for a 12-game home stretch. They’ll take on the Vancouver Canadians for the first 6 games. Game 1 is set for Wednesday night at 7:05 P.M.
