Spokane, WA — The Ems dropped the 4th game of the series against Spokane by a final score of 9-3. It marks the end of the 1st half in the Northwest League with the conclusion of the games tonight. Eugene ended up in 3rd place with a 33-32 record.
Spokane jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. G.J Hill hit an RBI-Single for the first run of the game and Jean Perez was able to score on a wild pitch. The Emeralds were able to cut the deficit in half in the top of the 3rd. Zach Morgan led off the inning with a double and Rodolfo Nolasco was able to hit him in with a single off the left field wall. In the top of the 4th inning the Ems tied up the game, this time off the bat off Matt Higgins. He drove in Diego Velasquez who started out the inning with a lead-off double.
Spokane jumped out to a 1-run lead in the 6th inning. Perez hit a single that scored Jesus Bugarin on the hit. Thankfully it didn’t take long for the Emeralds to tie up the game. In the top of the inning Quinn McDaniel started off the frame with an opposite field lead-off home run. It was McDaniel’s 5th long shot of the season, and he now trails the team leader in home runs by just 1. Quinn had a great game yesterday as well, as he drove in a pair of runs in the final innings of the 1st game of the double header.
The bottom of the 7th inning is where disaster struck for the Emeralds. They got a strikeout to start the inning but it was a dropped 3rd strike and G.J Hill ended up reaching base. The next 2 batters reached base without the ball leaving the infield and the first run of the inning was scored on an error that was charged to Quinn McDaniel. The rest is history as Spokane ended up pushing home 5 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the inning. Eugene committed a pair of errors that didn’t help, and it proved to be more than enough for Spokane.
They added 1 more run of insurance in the bottom of the 8th inning. Eugene got a pair of runners on with just 1-out but they couldn’t keep the rally going as they ended up falling by a final score of 9-3.
Eugene now turns their attention to the start of the 2nd half which starts tomorrow night. Daniel Blair will be on the mound for Eugene with first pitch set for 7:05 P.M.
