WAIMEA, Hawaii – Owen Avrit and Nate Stember carded a pair of 69s as the 18th-ranked Oregon men’s golf team shot 9 under in the second round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate on Friday afternoon.

Stember was bogey-free through his first 17 holes with four birdies as he maintained his position in the top 25, finishing tied for 23rdat 8 under overall. Meanwhile, Avrit used his 3-under day to shoot 17 places up the leaderboard and finish the day tied for 59th along with fellow Ducks Greyson Leach and Eric Doyle.

Oregon shot a collective 279 and enters the final day of play in 14th at 20 under overall.

How It Happened

After bogeying the first hole of the tournament on Thursday, Stember closed the first round by shooting par-or-better on each of his remaining holes and carried that momentum into round two. Stember was bogey-free through his first 17, but his par-or-better streak ended at 34 on the final hole of the second round. His 3-under performance secured himself a place in the top 25 entering the final round of play.

Avrit started the day slow as he shot 1 over across his first seven holes, but birdied four of the next six to make a charge up the leaderboard. He enters Saturday tied for 59th with teammates Leach – who has carded back-to-back rounds under par – and Doyle. After shooting 1 over in the first round, Greg Solhaug bounced back to fire a 2-under 70 with just one bogey on Friday, rising 12 places up the leaderboard as a result.

Aiden Krafft, playing as an individual, shot below par for the second-straight day, carding a 68 to finish the day tied for 32nd at 7under overall.

Quotable

“We had a slow start today,” head coach Casey Martin said. “Our guys are grinding and competing, but we have hit some really poor shots. We need to fix that tomorrow.”
