Freeman Named to Preseason Watch List

EUGENE, Ore. – Goalkeeper Leah Freeman was one of 12 players nationally named to the United Soccer Coaches women’s goalkeeper watch list on Friday.

The first team All-Pac-12 and All-Pacific Region selection led the Pac-12 and tied for 15th nationally with a school-record nine shut outs in 2021. Freeman ranked third in the league in both goals against average (0.87) and save percentage (.839) last season. She also posted a scoreless minutes streak of 449:59, second-longest in program history, which included four consecutive shutouts: Portland, Portland State, UCLA and California.

The junior from Berkeley, Calif., went 8-4-3 in net in 2021 and was twice named Pac-12 Player of the Week, including one after making six saves in a 0-0 shutout at No. 3 UCLA. She was one of just two goalkeepers to shutout the Bruins in 2021.

In two years at Oregon, Freeman already ranks fourth in UO career shutouts (14), sixth in wins (13) and eighth in saves (140). She also owns four school records: single-season shutouts (nine, 2021), lowest goals against average (0.74, 2020) and fewest goals allowed (12, 2020), as well as the mark for consecutive scoreless minutes (471:54, 2020).

Three of the 12 players on the 2022 list were from the Pac-12. Joining Freeman were Lauren Brzykcy of UCLA and Nadia Cooper of Washington State.

The Ducks open the 2022 season next Friday with an exhibition against Corban at 7 p.m. at Papé Field.
