IRVING, Texas – Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel was announced as one of 16 finalists for the 2024 William V.Campbell Trophy on Wednesday by the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame.The William V. Campbell Trophy is college football’s premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.The 16 finalists will each receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments.Gabriel becomes the fifth Oregon player to be named a NFF National Scholar-Athlete, joining fellow quarterbacks Bo Nix (2023), Justin Herbert (2019), Dennis Dixon (2007) and Bill Musgrave (1990). Nix won the 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy last year with the Ducks, and Herbert was the award’s recipient in 2019. Gabriel is one of two finalists from the Big Ten, along with Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin, and one of six quarterbacks. In his first season with the Ducks and sixth season of college football, Gabriel graduated from Oklahoma in May 2023 with a 3.43 GPA as a multidisciplinary studies major. Prior to OU, Gabriel was a two-time Academic All-AAC honoree at UCF. In his final season of eligibility, Gabriel is currently in a post-baccalaureate program at Oregon. A native of Mililani, Hawaii, Gabriel has helped No. 1 ranked Oregon to a 7-0 start in 2024 while leading the nation with a stellar 77.0 completion percentage. He also ranks eighth nationally in passer rating (173.33), ninth in both passing yards per game (299.71) and completions (174) and tied for 15th in passing touchdowns (15). Gabriel has also rushed for four touchdowns and is tied for 14th nationally in total touchdowns (19). A two-time all-Big 12 performer while at Oklahoma and a 2020 second-team all-AAC selection at UCF, Gabriel has started 56 career games and sits just five back of Nix’s record of 61 for starts by a QB. He currently ranks second all-time in both total yards (18,115) and total touchdowns (171), and third in both passing yards (16,963) and passing touchdowns (140). He is also ninth all-time in career completions (1,224). Active in the community, Gabriel helped build more than 200 beds for underpriveledged children, and he organized a youth basketball game in Eugene.
