SEATTLE – The Oregon State softball team dropped the middle game of the series to eighth-ranked Washington, 7-1, on Friday evening.
The Huskies used a pair of two-out home runs to build up a five-run lead in the first inning before using a pair of one-run frames in the fourth and fifth to make their lead seven. Oregon State (15-18, 3-5 Pac-12) chipped into the lead in the seventh with a Madyson Clark double to the center field wall, scoring Kaylee Oh but that was all the Beavs could muster.
In addition to her seventh inning RBI, Clark joined three other Beavers – Abby Doerr, Eliana Gottlieb and Morgan Howey – in registering a hit in the contest.
By yielding the Huskies’ six runs, Ellie Garcia (5-6) was charged with the loss. The junior from Chino, Calif., threw 4.0 innings, gave up six hits, issued three walks and struck out two. Sarah Haendiges entered the contest in the fifth, surrendered a run, struck out a pair of Huskies, allowed three hits and issued a walk in two innings’ worth of work.
The series will conclude tomorrow at 1 p.m. and can be seen on UW’s Live Stream.
