Ionescu One of Four Naismith Trophy Finalists

EUGENE, Ore. – The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Friday morning that Oregon women’s basketball senior Sabrina Ionescu has been named one of four finalists for the Citizen Naismith Trophy, which recognizes the nation’s most outstanding women’s college basketball player for the 2019-20 season.

Ionescu is a Naismith Trophy finalist for the second year in row and is looking to become the first Oregon player ever to take home the prestigious honor. The other three finalists for the 2020 Naismith Trophy are Lauren Cox (Baylor), Tyasha Harris (South Carolina) and Rhyne Howard (Kentucky).

Ionescu finished off a historic career with a stellar senior season and has been named an Associated Press first-team all-American and the Pac-12 player of the year – receiving each honor for the third straight year – while also completing a four-year sweep on the all-Pac-12 team.

In addition to the Naismith Trophy, Ionescu has been a mainstay on watch lists for other major national player of the year honors such as the Wooden Award and the Wade Trophy, both of which she won as a junior. The Walnut Creek, Calif., native is also a top-five finalist once again for the Nancy Lieberman Award as she aims to join Sue Bird as the only players to be named the national point guard of the year three times.
