SAN FRANCISCO – Rylan Johnson shot a 1-over 71 on the first day of The Goodwin as the Oregon State men’s golf team finished in a tie for 15th at the 31-team event.
Johnson made three birdies at the par-70, 7,193-yard TPC Harding Park. That paced the Beavers, who finished with 14 as a team, among the upper half of the field.
The Beavers shot a 10-over 290 as a team.
Johnson is tied for 28th after 18 holes.
Johnson was followed by one shot from teammate Mateo Fuenmayor, whose 2-over 72 placed him in a tie for 45th. He posted a team-high four birdies on the day.
Collin Hodgkinson placed third among the Beavers on the first day, finishing with a 3-over 73 that places him in a tie for 68th individually. He birdied once, the par-3 17th hole.
Jackson Lake, meanwhile, made three birdies on the day and finds himself tied for 92nd after day one with a 4-over 74.
Stanley Lin rounded out the five spots for the Beavers, finishing his first day with a 6-over 76 and tie for 137th. He tallied three birdies.
