MIGUEL ARAUJO CALLED UP TO PERUVIAN MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM IN SEPTEMBER

Peruvian defender to join the senior national team in FIFA international period to face Paraguay, Brazil


PORTLAND, Ore. –
Timbers defender Miguel Araujo was called into the Peruvian Men’s National Team for the FIFA international period in September, the Peruvian Football Federation announced.

Araujo will join Peru to play in the 2026 World Cup Qualifying Tournament with matches against Paraguay (Sept. 7) and Brazil (Sept. 12). The 28-year-old defender will join the senior team in Lima, Peru, following the Timbers’ away match against Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 2, and will miss Portland’s home match against LAFC on Sept. 9. This season, Araujo has tallied two appearances (two starts) for the Timbers since joining the team on June 30.

Araujo has made 28 appearances for the Peruvian Men’s National Team. His last appearance with Peru was in his native country’s friendly match against Japan on June 16, logging a full 90-minute performance. Araujo received his first senior call up on March 27, 2013, and went on to make his debut on November 18, 2014, in a friendly match against Paraguay. Notably, Araujo featured in Peru’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and the 2019 and 2021 Copa America squads for Peru. Additionally, the defender played for Peru’s U-17 and U-20 squads, making appearances in the 2011 South American U-17 Football Championship and the 2013 South American Youth Championship.
