LA JOLLA, Calif. – Shelby Moran won the hammer Friday afternoon at the Triton Invitational, improving to 3-for-3 this season in her signature event. The Sherwood, Ore., native recorded a day’s best measure of 65.31m/214-3 to claim the top spot.
Trailing former UO standout Jillian Weir through four rounds, Moran had the winning mark on her fifth attempt. Weir led early with a toss of 65.08m/213-6 in the first round before being supplanted atop the leaderboard.
Moran adds the win at the Triton Invitational to this season’s first-place efforts at the PNW Invitational (March 16) and Oregon Preview (March 22). She has a season-best measure of 66.62m/218-7 from the home meet, a mark that ranks fourth in the NCAA entering the week.
Moran is the first of three UO throwers in competition at the Triton Invitational. Jaida Ross (shot put) and Mason Strunk (hammer) will be in action Saturday.
Additionally, the Ducks’ sprinters are in Berkeley, Calif., for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational while the pole vault crew is closer to home at the Linfield Jenn Boyman Invitational in McMinnville, Ore.
