EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and sixth time in his career, the conference announced on Monday.
Nix was also named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award on Monday, given to the most outstanding player in college football. Nix is one of 17 semifinalists, and one of three from the Pac-12 along with Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) and Caleb Williams (USC).
Nix continued to strengthen his Heisman Trophy resume last week while outdueling Williams – the reigning Heisman winner – in a 36-27 Oregon win. The fifth-year senior completed 23-of-31 passes for a season-high 412 yards and four touchdowns, his second straight game with four TD passes.
The Pinson, Ala., native threw for the most yards ever by a Duck vs. USC, and joined Akili Smith as the only Ducks ever with three career 400-yard passing games.
Nix opened the game with touchdown passes of 77 and 84 yards on his first two attempts, becoming the first FBS QB since at least 2012 to throw touchdowns of at least 75 passes on his first two attempts.
Nix has led the No. 6 Ducks to a 9-1 record entering this Saturday’s game at Arizona State (1 p.m. PT, FOX), and he leads the nation with a 77.7 completion percentage that is on pace to break the NCAA single-season record (77.1, Mac Jones). Nix is tied for second nationally in passing touchdowns (29) while ranking third in passer rating (184.66), fifth in passing yards per game (313.5), fifth in total touchdowns (34) and fifth in total yards per play (8.80).
Nix is the only Pac-12 player to earn the offensive award multiple times this season, and he is the first Duck ever to win the honor six times. Oregon has now won six total conference weekly awards this season.
