EUGENE — Oregon tight end Hunter Kampmoyer and women’s basketball player Lydia Giomi were named the University of Oregon recipients of the Pac-12’s Tom Hansen Conference Medal for 2020-21, the league office announced on Wednesday.
A part of five of the most successful seasons in program history and recent recipient of her master’s degree, Giomi’s win marks the second straight year that the women’s recipient of the Hansen Medal at UO has come from the basketball program, after Satou Sabally earned the honor last season.
Giomi is the sixth player in program history to receive the award that is given to one male and one female student-athlete at each school who displays outstanding achievement in academics, athletics and leadership (Satou Sabally – 2020, Amanda Johnson – 2012, Cathrine Kraayeveld – 2005, Arianne Boyer – 1997, Lauri Landerholm – 1987)
Giomi arrived at Oregon as a part of the 2016 recruiting class and has been a part of four Sweet Sixteen runs, three Elite Eight appearances and the 2019 team that made it to the program’s first Final Four. She appeared in 118 games over her five seasons, finishing with a .579 field goal percentage and averaging 2.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game as a role player off the bench.
This past school year, Giomi taught a class of third graders over Zoom while earning her master’s degree in education. She helped lead a group of 25 third-grade students through reading and math classes in the morning before heading to practice in the afternoon, then capped off her day with graduate school classes three nights a week.
The native of Seattle, Wash., earned her undergraduate degree following the 2020 school year and was a leader for this year’s team that made it to the Sweet Sixteen, as one of just two seniors in a group that included eight underclassmen. Giomi was also a part of three straight Pac-12 regular season title winning teams from 2018-20 and ended her career just five games played shy of cracking the UO career top 10 list in that category.

A two-time scholar athlete award winner for the Ducks, Kampmoyer helped Oregon to back-to-back Pac-12 Championships as well as a victory in the 2020 Rose Bowl. The Bishop, Calif., native capped his UO career-highs for catches (14), receiving yards (161) and touchdowns (3) in 2020, including a 14-yard touchdown to help the Ducks win the Pac-12 Championship Game.
Kampmoyer graduated from Oregon with a degree in sociology. He signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Chargers following the 2021 NFL Draft, reuniting with former UO quarterback Justin Herbert.
Off the field, Kampmoyer volunteered for O Heroes community service projects throughout his time in Eugene. He spoke to local youth on many occasions and also participated in community service projects for Oregon Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club of Eugene, and Boy Scouts of America.
