#OregonGolf: Radley Named To WGCA National Coach Of The Year Watch List

EUGENE – Oregon women’s golf head coach Derek Radley is one of 20 coaches on the watch list for the 2020-21 Division I Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year Presented by Golf Pride, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.

Recognized as the highest coaching honor in women’s collegiate golf, the Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year Presented by Golf Pride is awarded annually to the top coach in Division I, II III and NAIA women’s golf. The recipient is selected by a prestigious collection of women’s collegiate golf coaches who follow criteria that has been established to identify the top head coach for the past year.

The award will be announced after medal play at the upcoming NCAA Championship.

In his third year with the Ducks, Radley has led Oregon back to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2017 and the 11th time in program history. Radley’s squad earned the No. 4 seed at the Baton Rouge Regional and will open play at the NCAA Championships on Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Ducks have put together a terrific spring season, finishing in the top five in all six tournaments in 2021 and 12 of the last 13 dating back to last season. Oregon finished as co-champions at the PING ASU Invitational on March 26-28, the program’s first tournament win since 2016. The Ducks tied for fifth at the Pac-12 Championships, Oregon’s best conference finish since 2015.

Radley and the Ducks have been on a steady rise in the national rankings all season, coming in at No. 13 according to Golfstat ahead of the NCAA Championships. Oregon boasts two all-Pac-12 first-team selections for the first time in program history in sophomore Briana Chacon and freshman Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu, and Chacon’s stellar spring has her up to No. 22 in the individual national rankings.
