Oregon’s Freeman Named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – For the second time this season, sophomore Leah Freeman has been selected as the Pac-12 goalkeeper of the week, the conference announced Monday.

Freeman helped Oregon win a pair of 1-0 games versus Arizona and Arizona State last week. She matched her season high with eight saves Sunday against ASU, including three from point-blank range. Oregon became the first team to shutout the Sun Devils this season.

Freeman had a pair of saves Thursday against Arizona as the Ducks swept the Arizona schools for the first time since 2016. Oregon’s 8-1-4 record is its best in 40 years.

The two clean sheets last week give her a school-record eight shutouts on the season, breaking the previous high of seven by Jessie Chatfield (2005) and Halla Hinriksdottir (2018). Freeman also recorded her seventh win of the season, which is tied for 10th on the UO single-season list and just two shy of the school record of nine.

On the season, Freeman leads the Pac-12 and ranks second nationally with eight shutouts. She is second in the conference in both goals against average (0.47) and save percentage (.900). Nationally, she is third in save percentage and ninth in goals against average.
