EUGENE — The honors continued to roll in for Kayvon Thibodeaux on Tuesday afternoon as Oregon’s star defensive end was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week and the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week.
Earlier in the day, Thibodeaux was honored as the Bednarik Award National Player of the Week. On Monday, the Los Angeles native swept the Pac-12 Defensive Player and Defensive Lineman of the Week awards. He has also been named to the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week while earning Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Thibodeaux is the second Duck this season to earn the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honor, with safety Verone McKinley III receiving the award following Oregon’s historic win at then-No. 3 Ohio State. Prior to this season, no Duck had earned the weekly honor since it began in 2001.
Thibodeaux was on the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, presented annually to college football’s best defensive player. Haloti Ngata (2005) is the lone Duck ever to be named a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy.
The sophomore is also a quarterfinalist for the 2021 Lott IMPACT Trophy, given to the student-athlete who best exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
