EUGENE – Oregon left-handed pitcher Brooke Yanez was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Monday.
Yanez is the first Oregon pitcher to win the award in back-to-back weeks since Cheridan Hawkins in 2015. She also earned the weekly award for the third time this season, becoming the first Duck since Hawkins in 2015 to be named conference pitcher of the week at least three times in a season.
Yanez recorded 20 strikeouts to just four walks in three appearances at California, posting a 0.51 ERA over 13.2 innings while going 2-0. It’s the second week in a row that she has struck out at least 20 batters in a weekend series and the second straight week she posted a sub-1.00 ERA.
The junior lefty opened the series with the Bears by tossing a four-hit shutout in a 2-0 win on Thursday, striking out 12 and walking two. It was her sixth shutout of the season and 12th complete game victory of the year and marked the eighth time she reached double figures in strikeouts this year.
